We PRAY for WATER.
No water turns into CLEAN RUNNING WATER.
We call things which is not as though they were! We call for WATER on our land!
No WATER
Help us get water > https://www.koasinag.com/donations/water-supply
We’ve got many challenges at hand currently, but our main concern at this moment is getting water on our land.
It might seem surreal and strange to find that in 2023 you still get “water carries” which need to fetch water so that the basic needs of her family can be taken care of. I admire the strength of character these African women posses – I can only look at them in awe.
The current situation is that the rural community which we are part of have NO WATER supply, what I mean is that there is no water piping to each house provided by local municipality. Mbazwana (Google map link) village in the Northerly parts if Kwa-Zulu Natal is mainly under Tribal Law and management, a large majority of the citizens are very poor and mostly live of government grants.
Our main Community “Borehole” (well) which was installed by kind hearted donors in conjunction with local district municipality – has been contaminated with sandy bottom and the water is dirty and un-drinkable. The municipality has abandoned that project and is currently in disrepair. We also are waiting for the local Councillor to attend to this, which has turned out to be a challenge as well.
Faithful mothers and children need to carry heavy 20/25kg “SPARKS” on their heads, as no water trucks are available. These brave women need to find a local tap, which is offered/shared by those who are privileged enough to have a borehole/well, and then share it with many and take turns as most of the time only one tap is provided. They can only carry one drum at a time so this process needs to be done a few times a day. I won’t even attempt balancing a 20/25kg drum on my head, not even to mention carrying it for a distance.
We are stuck in between a rock and a hard place as we are struggling together with our neighbours for basic water provision. You can’t grow vegetables/food to be self sufficient, you can’t take a quick shower – a bucket has to do the trick –you continually need to plan when and how to fetch water. You live out of “sparks” and 2lt bottles and I personally am done with this, but we need your help with this.
We have been blessed with a “skorokoro” (Worn and ragged beyond its years, usually used to describe a vehicle) – which is a total rust bucket, but we have got wheels and it take us places. I have spend plenty of hours working and repairing our trusty steed and she still needs a ton a attention, but I am just grateful to have her.
As we do have a truck to move about, we can be a bit more efficient in getting water and at least do not have to do the tedious daily water run or carry bottles on our heads.
As we are currently experiencing high levels of LOAD SHEDDING which are affecting all South Africans and is a deep hurt, the Municipal water line which runs adjacent to the main road does not provide water anymore, as I can understand is mainly a gravity feed system, so if there is no power to push start the water line, only those who are close to the water yard gets water. Those who are in power to fix these issues are only looking at their own self interest – so communities like ours are left to fend for themselves.
Please help us to get water on our land so we can also put a communal tap outside to assist with the burden. If you need more information please do not hesitate in contacting us tom@koasinag.com
