Matthew 7:24-27 AMP
24 “So everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, will be like a wise man [a far-sighted, practical, and sensible man]who built his house on the rock. [Luke 6:47-49] 25 And the rain fell, and the floods and torrents came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not do them, will be like a foolish (stupid) man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods and torrents came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great and complete was its fall.”
“Standing or falling”
Q: Why have we become so good at failing and falling?
A: Matt 7:24-27 is such a great illustration of the four types of people on this planet, those who think that they can go at it all alone and need no one; the in-betweeners [Fence riders], those who do not know the truth at all; and those who believe that there must be a greater power—something more important than “self.”.
We fall and tumble around in the dark because our substance is built on our own understanding. How foolish we have become as “christians”. I now understand what the bible says about crying “Lord, Lord” [Luke 6:46 & Matt7:21]—saying you are a Christian does not make you a follower/disciple of CHRIST. Saying you are a Christian just means “I believe in a general christian orientation, but I am still in control, and I’m not going to surrender to Christ Jesus!”.
When you become a follower of Christ, one of God’s precepts is to surrender yourself and your will for His Understanding. That is not easy, but it is a very wise choice! You can’t serve Christ and your own agenda at the same time; this option will only spin you in circles. If you follow Christ, you do it with all and everything—you surrender all.
Christ is the cornerstone of our faith; everything is built on what he has done for us. He, the savior of our soul, is our ROCK, not just in an idiom or parable but literally—without Christ, we fall and fail!
Ask yourself this today:
How much better can my life be if I fully surrender to Christ Jesus?
Let’s Pray:
Father, I have missed the point and literally messed things up completely! I need you more than ever. I declare and conform to your understanding—Christ, your Son, is my rock and salvation. Save me from myself and foolish understanding—I surrender!
In Jesus’ name. Amen!
